Sick Boy and Father Who Kidnapped Him Found in a Hotel outside Chicago
Divorce can be an emotional, stressful and contentious experience, but this does not just mean that a husband and wife will just be fighting over money, property, child custody and other terms in a courtroom. To get through your divorce in a safe and healthy way, it is important to remember that the turmoil of divorce can make people do dangerous things so you have to be prepared for anything and make decisions accordingly, even if they seem harsh. The following incident is a prime example of what a divorcing spouse may be capable of.
A Desperate Move for Custody
Courtesy of The Chicago Tribune, a California man was quickly traced to a hotel room outside Chicago after he made taunting calls and texted threatening messages to his estranged wife. The man, age 33, was arrested and charged with kidnapping his five-year-old son. The boy, who has congestive heart failure and is a candidate for a heart transplant on the high-priority list, was found unharmed with his father at Baymont Inn & Suites in Alsip.
The boy had just been released from St. Louis Children’s Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson. The father told the mother that he was going with his son to pick up his son’s prescriptions at the hospital pharmacy. Minutes later, he called his wife telling her he was taking their son, who has a disease that weakens the heart’s ability to pump blood.
The boy’s mother was shocked and scared by the alleged abduction. According to her divorce attorney, she was worried he might be in danger without two medications he needed and with his medical condition. Police detectives who learned of the boy’s health problems set to work immediately to find him.
Thankfully, during the 11-hour time period that the boy was with his father, the father texted and called his estranged wife several times. The Secret Service helped track him to the hotel. The boy’s parents married seven years ago and are in the middle of a divorce involving the father’s filing for divorce and the mother’s counter-petition accusing him of marital misconduct, including adultery.
