Is Marriage Any Easier after 20 Years? Actress Jane Seymour and Husband James Keach Confirm Separation, Negotiate Terms of Divorce

By Leslie Fineberg on April 29, 2013

Actress Jane Seymour’s representative has told USA TODAY in a prepared statement that she and her husband of 20 years have been separated for several months and are negotiating the terms of their divorce.

According to the statement, the couple will continue to be devoted, loving parents to their children and will continue as business associates.  Both intend to remain dedicated to the charitable causes they have supported.

Married in 1993, Seymour and Keach are the parents of twin sons, Kristopher and John, age 17.

Keach had been married two times prior to their relationship, and Seymour was married three times before.  According to a report in Psychology Today, no reasons have been given for the separation.  The couple have stated only that they are separated, living apart, and negotiating a settlement.  According to several reports, the couple had been having trust issues.

Marriage and family therapist, Jane Greer, Ph.D., said it is always a shock when couples who have been married for such a long time decide to end the marriage.  Most assume that marriage becomes easier as time goes by, and that within 20 years they would have figured out how to make the marriage work.

Trust issues are often at the heart of the problem in struggling marriages because they may be swept under the rug for years.

Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for in a very complicated, emotional matter. She has continuously looked out for my best interest and the best interest of my son. She is always prompt in getting back to me and in keeping me well informed about my case.
