Mayim Bialik, former Blossom star and actress on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, announced that she and her husband of nine years, Michael Stone, are getting a divorce, according to The Huffington Post. The couple has two young sons.
There has been a lot of speculation about the reason for the couple’s decision, the most popular of which involves parenting styles. Mayim Bialik is a proponent of attachment parenting, a philosophy centered around forming close bonds with children through near-constant physical contact. The philosophy encourages co-sleeping, carrying babies in slings as opposed to strollers, and prolonged breastfeeding. Bialik even published a book on the subject, but says that the parenting philosophy did not play a role in their decision to divorce. She stated that “relationships are complicated no matter what style of parenting you choose.”
Celebrity divorces always draw media attention, but even more so when it involves a couple that has been together as long as Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have. According to The Huffington Post, “gray divorce” is on the rise and celebrities are no exception.
Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, 67- and 64-years-old respectively, had been married for 30 years before they decided to go their separate ways. They officially announced their separation in October and while DeVito’s “wandering eye” has been claimed as the reason for the split, a representative for DeVito claims that that is false.
Actor Russell Crowe and his wife, Australian singer Danielle Spencer, have separated after nine years of marriage, according to The Huffington Post. The couple, who had first met 22 years ago on the set of The Crossing, had married in April 2003 in South Wales and have two sons, Tennyson and Charles.
Crowe’s busy work schedule, which has kept him away from his family for the better part of this year, is reportedly one of the reasons for the couple’s split. He has six movies coming out in the next 12 months, including the biblical epic Noah, which he is currently working on. The split is reportedly amicable and the pair remain focused on raising their two sons, who live with their mother in Sydney.
The Holmes-Cruise divorce did not just make headlines because of the couple’s celebrity status, but because their divorce was settled within a matter of weeks instead of the months and even years that other celebrity divorces can take. The terms of the couple’s divorce agreement was private at the time, but has now been released to the public, according to The Huffington Post.
Divorce documents show that Katie Holmes will receive child support, no spousal support, and practically nothing of Tom Cruise’s $250 million fortune, as was determined by their prenuptial agreement. Cruise will pay Holmes $4.8 million over the course of the next 12 years as child support, until their daughter, Suri, turns 18. That amounts to $400,000 per year. Cruise is also responsible for any health, dental, education, or other expenses for Suri. The divorce settlement prohibits Suri from attending any type of boarding school.
