Frank McCourt Seeks to Lower Spousal Support Payments Given to Jamie McCourt

By Nottage and Ward on July 27, 2011

According to USA Today, Frank McCourt, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, requested a judge to lower the spousal support payments he is giving to Jamie McCourt in their contentious divorce, which involves ownership of the Dodgers. A hearing has been set for early August.

Court documents show that over $5 million has been paid by Frank McCourt over the past year for the mortgages of a condominium and six homes, in addition to about $2.7 million in temporary spousal support given to his ex-wife. McCourt believes the payments should reflect the $5 million he allegedly receives every year, and that Jamie McCourt should either pay the mortgages or sell the properties herself. Her attorneys believe that Frank McCourt should sell his half of the Dodgers assets if his personal finances are so terrible.

Last May, Frank McCourt was ordered to pay $225,000 per month in spousal support to Jamie McCourt and over $400,000 per month for their homes to be maintained. His ex-wife had been asking for almost $1 million per month in support.
In late 2010, a judge ruled that a post-nuptial marital agreement giving Frank McCourt sole ownership of the baseball team was not valid. In response, Jamie McCourt, the former team CEO who had been fired by Frank McCourt, sought half of the team, under California’s laws regarding community property. In June, the McCourts achieved a settlement that was reliant on the approval of a $3 billion TV deal with Fox by the MLB. However, the deal was rejected by Commissioner Bud Selig.

Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for in a very complicated, emotional matter. She has continuously looked out for my best interest and the best interest of my son. She is always prompt in getting back to me and in keeping me well informed about my case.
