How to Face Your Fears During Divorce and Conquer Them

By Nottage and Ward on November 4, 2015

During any divorce, the two most common negative emotions people experience are anxiety and fear.  These are understandable feelings.  You’re stepping away from everything you know, into a future where all the details – from your financial health to the time you spend with your children – are uncertain.

Here are several ways you can address feelings of anxiety or fear during a divorce:

Talk to someone you trust.

Depending on the problem that concerns you, this person might be a friend or family member, or a professional, like an accountant or an attorney.  A professional can help answer specific questions you have about finances or legal questions to help set your mind at ease.

Enjoy healthy hobbies or find a new one.

Exercise helps both the mind and the body stay fit and keep fear and anxiety in perspective. If you already have an exercise routine or sport you enjoy, make it a priority. If not, now is a great time to try a new sport or hobby that interests you.

Seek help.

If anxiety or fear are interfering with your ability to work or care for yourself and your children, it’s time to seek professional help from your doctor or a therapist. Seeing a therapist proactively to talk about your feelings can also help you cope before fear or anxiety overwhelm you.

At Nottage and Ward, LLP, our experienced Chicago divorce attorneys can help you understand your legal options. We can help you prepare for a brighter future for yourself and your family. Reduce your anxiety and fear by taking control.

Five Stars5 Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for

Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for in a very complicated, emotional matter. She has continuously looked out for my best interest and the best interest of my son. She is always prompt in getting back to me and in keeping me well informed about my case.
