Court-Ordered Parenting Classes Now Available Online in Cook County

By Nottage and Ward on November 26, 2012

As an experienced child custody attorney in Chicago, Jeffrey Knipmeyer knows how difficult going through divorce can be for parent and child. Fortunately, Illinois law has provisions to help parents and children through the process.

When parents are going through a divorce in Illinois, and their children are minors, the court usually orders that the parents complete a parenting education course as part of their divorce settlement, according to an article on SFGate.com. While this course was traditionally offered only in a classroom setting, Cook County now offers an online option.

The Cook County Circuit Court began their online parenting course on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. The new program, which is called “Children in Between” addresses the effects that separation and divorce have on children. With online availability, it is much more convenient for working parents who would have had to take time off work to attend the classrooms in person. According to an Illinois judge, parenting education is a very important and beneficial tool to “help families going through child custody proceedings to achieve positive outcomes.”

Child custody is one of the most emotionally charged and contentious aspects of a divorce for both parents and children. Having support to get through such a tough time can make a great difference in how both parents and children adjust to their new relationship.

If you are a parent who is planning to divorce, Cook County divorce attorney Jeffrey Knipmeyer and the legal team at Nottage and Ward can help you obtain a favorable child custody agreement. To learn more about our services, call us today at (312) 332-2915.

Five Stars5 Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for

Leslie has been the strongest representation I could ask for in a very complicated, emotional matter. She has continuously looked out for my best interest and the best interest of my son. She is always prompt in getting back to me and in keeping me well informed about my case.
